On January 22, Cunningham Park Elementary hosted our annual Family STEAM Night.  Students and parents participated in many different activities throughout the evening, including a tessellation challenge, coding without computers, and a tower building contest!  We were excited to have students from George Mason University and Northern Virginia Community College bring robots, iPads, learning tools for world geography, coding games, and many other STEAM-related goodies for our students and parents to use for exploration of 21st century skills.  Assisting our students and heading up our STEAM Night were librarian, Ms. Meg Brinkhuis; art teacher, Ms. Ellen O’Hearn; AART, Mr. Dan Solsberry; math specialist, Ms. Sue Garthwatie; SBTS, Dr. Keri Mina, and volunteers from Thoreau Middle School and Stenwood Elementary Girl Scout cadets from Troop 1542.  Also a treat, Ms. O’Hearn, brought her standing desk and her patent for her standing desk creation, showing our CPES community that our teachers value STEAM skills and use them in real life!
